ABOUT
Custom Classics Woodworking was forged by combining two of my passions: vintage automobiles and the art of woodworking. I create handcrafted works that celebrate the art and design of motor vehicles.
My enthusiasm for both working with wood and antique cars can be traced back to my youth. When I was in my teens, I purchased a neglected 1957 MGA Coupe, eventually restoring it to its former glory. Having been inspired by my own father's curiosity and talent for both antique autos and working with one's hands, my interests eventually came together to become the creative endeavor now known as Custom Classics Woodworking.

PROCESS
I start most subjects by taking detailed photographs at numerous angles. These photos allow me to formulate a design for how to represent each car, emphasizing certain key elements where desired.
Most of my cars have dozens of unique pieces made from select hardwoods. To create each component, I use a combination of traditional and state-of-the-art woodworking tools and techniques to perform the cutting and shaping. Each piece then receives countless hours of hand carving, filing, and sanding to achieve just the right look and fit. The cars are then hand painted and detailed with finishing trim as appropriate. Trim may include other materials such as steel, brass, copper, aluminum, polycarbonate, and/or leather to accentuate a piece.
Most cars can be displayed with or without a custom-sized framed panel. As shown in the selected works, the panel can provide a surface for adding relevant words such as the car's year, make, and/or model. It can also be used to highlight a business name or an event.
Each car can take several months to complete. This is heavily dependent on the complexity of the overall design.
My sculptures are not intended to be scale models, though scale, proportion, and perspective are key elements in my designs.
